Rice-Spivak Vineyard

Rice-Spivak Vineyard

Planted in 1999 and owned by Russell Rice and Helene Spivak, we have been working with this vineyard since LaRue was founded in 2009. Katy first met Russell and Helene in 2007 during her time as the Assistant Winemaker at Flowers Vineyard & Winery, where they bonded over a mutual respect for the vineyard and the pursuit of showcasing its truest expression. From her very first harvest experience working with Rice-Spivak, Katy knew that this small, cool north-facing site was something special. Fast-forward more than a decade later and our LaRue Rice-Spivak Pinot Noir shines as one of our most anticipated releases every year.  The six acres of Rice-Spivak Vineyard lie south of the town of Sebastopol. Its Goldridge sandy loam soils mixed with volcanic ash are quite unusual. This distinctive soil profile along with the clonal selections of Dijon and Swan create a wine that is balanced with vibrant acidity, fresh aromas, and unmistakable minerality.
